Description

Normaly when someone draws a fanart of a character or show they need no introduction, however in this case...

Say hello to Nura Rikuo from Nurarihyon no Mago. This isn't something most of you have heard of, (unless you live in Japan, where it's very popular, or you're just random) I heard of this manga two weeks ago and had a good, long read... it's fantastic! (DO NOT ask me where to read it online, I'd get banned for linking) For fans of yokai ('evil spirits' more or less) this is a 'must read'!

The title and the concept of this pic is 'Kyouka Suigetsu', which is the concept of the moon reflected in the water being something you can't touch (and when you try, you displace it with ripples) YES it is the same as Aizen's sword and I did totally have a giggle over that- *cough* anyway Rikuo's power is that. I shall explain no more.

So anyway, I drew this, 1, because I caught up with the manga (and loved it) and 2, because I haven't properly kicked back and drawn a fanart for... over three months. The 3rd reason is infact that this image appeared in my head after reading, and it -was shiny-, so I just -had- to.

I tried a new technique (as usual) a combi-technique of computer sketching and traditional detailing that definitely, definitely worked. Originaly (for this reason) Rikuo-kun's reflection was accurate and detailed, as were the reflections of 'the weeping cherry blossom tree' and the house. UM. Nevermind that I destroyed my own work. =D (As a note, the haori doesn't have those patterns in the manga)

The part you're probably curious about took far longer and deadly amounts of ram... is the ripples. I foolheadedly decided to do those entirely on the computer, my original plan of distortion masks didn't work out, so improvising added a little extra work. I'll sum it up though, by telling you the water and ripples take 7 layers.

Anyway, I hope you've enjoyed despite the completely random manga! I actually really enjoyed lazing around and doing some airbrushing and drawing a weird character like this.
